Summer Day Camp June 30-July 4th 2025 (no camp on July 1 stat)

Important info:

Camps runs 9 am to 4 pm each day. If you would like partial day option, please let us know in the form below so that we can plan accordingly.

Our camp divides into two groups: WONDER CAMP for youngers (5 to approx 10 years) and UNIQUELY U: A RADICALLY INCLUSIVE camp for youth 10 to 16 years. Final grouping will be decided by camp directors depending on the # and age composition of who enrolls (and also by interest; we welcome your requests). We ask that all campers be of school age.

Cooking and eating lunch together will be a wonderful and special part of the camp experience. We also ask that you send a hearty snack with your child each day.

*** We will do our best to create lunches that everyone enjoys, and will also ask that campers be willing to try new foods. If your child/youth is particular in what they like to eat, please be prepared to send lunches from home as needed.

Each year our UU community participates in the Victoria Pride Parade, which happens this year on Sunday July 6. We warmly invite your family to join the fun! Please know that while UU parade leaders will be there to support, we cannot be officially responsible for your child at the parade-- they must attend with a guardian who is ultimately responsible for their comfort and safety.

Accessibility & inclusion

Our aim is to address barriers to participation without overcommitting beyond our capacity to provide safe care.

If any kids need special support to participate, let's talk and see what we can arrange.

To include older children it may be possible to create volunteer leader roles for older kids wanting looking to get such experience and/or a reference.

Our aim is to prevent parent work schedules from being a barrier to participation.

Please note that registration is not confirmed until we respond and confirm that there is space available in all the days and times requested and that we have the capacity to meet any special needs.
Food Preferences

Our shared meals will be primarily vegetarian, with some added options for free range meats in some of ther meals. We know that children and youth vary widely in the range of foods they like to eat! Please let us know a little more about your child's eating needs and preferences.

Camper Code of Conduct

We have three simple rules that everyone from the Directors to campers are expected to follow. These rules are created in the spirit of our 8 Unitarian Universalist principles and are:

We make sure every living being is cared for, respected, and safe.

We respect the work of others.

We take care of our space and what we use.

As part of our UU principles, campers and leaders work together to create a camp covenant for the week so that we can enjoy an inclusive, inviting and fun space for all.
Permissions

I understand that the church follows best practices for ensuring safety and release UUCV from legal liability for unforseen and accidental damage, inside the church, on the church grounds, and in any online meeting space (such as Zoom). I am aware that living and learning present inherent risks (such as uneven ground in our forest which may cause tripping and falling), but allow UUCV to support my child/youth in learning about managing minor risks such as these.

Current COVID team requirements will be followed, as well as all public health rules as they apply to such programs.

Photo Permission

Photography allows us to foster congregational community and express our spiritual selves to the wider community and is an important way we connect in the world. We would love it if you would help us share in this way, but we require your informed consent and agreement before we do so.

If you have not already done so, please complete our photo permission form to clearly indicate if you do or do not give us permission for photos.

About Sliding Scale Pricing:

Costs to run this camp include lunch supplies, program and art supplies, fieldtrip expenses, staffing, and operation overheads.  We value your contribution to help make this camp possible!

We follow the Canadian Unitarian Council’s lead on making our program as financially accessible as possible. Sliding scale fees are designed to allow participants to choose how much they are able to pay for registration. If you are unsure how much you should be paying, here are a few words about sliding scale to think about:

“When I pay more, I know that I am helping others to access the event. When I pay in the middle, I know I am helping the organizers cover costs. And when I pay at the bottom, I know I am letting my community hold me and support me. All of these are wonderful and acceptable ways of participating.”

“Please be mindful that if you purchase a price at the lowest end of the scale when you can truthfully afford the higher ticket prices, you are limiting access to those who truly need the gift of financial flexibility. Being honest with yourself and your financial situation when engaging with sliding scale practices grows strong and sustainable communities.” (Source: Sliding Scale Why, How, and Sorting Out Who)
